The following is a statement from the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas.

We are disappointed about the defeat of the Value Them Both Amendment yesterday.

We are profoundly grateful for the overwhelming number of prayers, volunteer hours and sacrifices that so many good people throughout Kansas and across the country have committed to this effort. The joy, perseverance, and courage shown by the coalition and its grassroots volunteers amidst a very hostile opposing campaign is inspiring.

Unfortunately, we were not able to overcome the millions spent by the abortion industry to mislead Kansans about the amendment, nor the overwhelming bias of the secular press whose failure to report clearly on the true nature of the amendment served to advance the cause of the abortion industry.

The Church and the pro-life community will continue its tangible and compassionate service to women facing unplanned or difficult pregnancies and to women and men needing healing after an abortion. In fact, we commit to increasing our support as Kansas becomes a destination state for abortion.

The pro-life community persevered through 50 years of Roe. In Kansas, we will continue our relentless defense of the dignity and sanctity of all human life. Life will be victorious!

Our Lady of Guadalupe, patroness of the unborn, and St. Joseph, defender of all life, continue to pray for us.

  • Complaining about “millions of dollars spent to mislead voters” is an amazing bit of projection. I guess that’s okay if the Church does it though!

    • Let’s think about this for a moment… God has created each baby in the womb as a special gift from Himself to us.
So, how does God see the different ways we accept or reject his beautiful gifts?
Yes, I believe in God’s view someone is being misled, especially for eternal consequences.
What is okay is seeking the Truth.

No, it was not a ban. The language of the proposed amendment was simple and clearly not a ban on abortion at all.
Abortion would have continued after the Value Them Both amendment if it had been adopted.
The proposed VTB amendment would have simply regulated abortions as before the grievous Kansas Supreme Court decision in 2019.
