There’s nothing like some friendly competition to bring out school spirit.

This week, we are hosting an Instagram competition for high schools around the archdiocese. We posted a photo of each high school to our Instagram page, and the photo that gets the most “likes” by this Friday will win a day in which we will photograph a day in the life of that school.

So far, the response of these high school students has been overwhelming.

For us bystanders, it’s almost felt like watching the students compete for the state title.

Who knew that social media could bring out such a strong competitive side to our archdiocesan high schools?

It’s been really amazing to watch the students rally around their schools and encourage one another to get involved with this competition.

Not only does this demonstrate the healthy competitive nature of our schools, but it shows an interest the students have in promoting their own schools as well.

These students obviously have a love of their fellow classmates, teachers and faculty, even if they don’t always show it.

Through all the complaints about homework and uniforms and long school days, when it comes down to it, our high school students love their schools.

We saw in our story featuring priests who utilize social media how powerful the web can be. It’s the perfect outlet to spread positive, hopeful messages to a vast amount of people in a short amount of time.

No wonder so many young people dedicate so much of their time to keeping up with the latest social media trends.

We hope this week’s campaign not only encourages a healthy dose of competition, but also inspires our young people to stay actively informed about the good news that happens in our archdiocese.

We can’t wait to see who pulls out the win this Friday.
