Help build a monastery

If you’d like a break from your Saturday morning ritual of coffee and cartoons I recommend an excursion to the intersection of Boeke Street and Homer Avenue in Kansas City, Kansas.

There you’ll find the Community of the Lamb working earnestly to complete construction of the Little Brother’s monastery “Light of Mary, Mother of God.”

And you will most definitely be invited to join in.

Each Saturday morning, after Mass at Lumen Christi, the little sisters’ monastery; the community and friends walk together down Boeke Street to the construction site.

They spend the rest of the morning busy with cleaning, painting, woodworking and landscaping.

There is a job for everyone no matter age, sex or physical prowess.

Just to the southeast of the monastery, an impressive grotto is being built by the community from stones unearthed during construction.

Help is greatly needed and abundantly appreciated. After all, the dedication of the little monastery is just six weeks away.

It’s been a long journey.

Prayer and fundraising for the little monastery started in 2014 at a small house adjacent to All Saints church where the Little Brothers have lived together as they wait and work and pray for their new home.

A mendicant order, the Community of the Lamb lives in poverty. Brothers and sisters go out into the neighborhood and beg for their daily bread.

And so the Little Brothers confide completely in Divine Providence to complete this project, and God has provided them with many generous partners.

But they would welcome more.

Helping at the construction site, or through a donation, is a beautiful way to be the hands and feet of Christ building a place that will bring the gospel to a neighborhood desperately in need of its message.

The Little Brothers need help at the construction site!

Would you like to help? We need your talents, or at least your willingness to learn! Every Saturday, beginning with Mass at 7:30AM at Lumen Christi Monastery (only a block away), we will be working on the monastery. The new monastery is at: 921 Homer Ave, Kansas City, KS 66101. Don’t hesitate to contact us: 913-998- 6644 or littlebrotherskansas@communityofthelamb.org.

Save the Date!

The Dedication and Blessing of “Light of Mary, Mother of God” Monastery will be held on Saturday, November 3rd, 2018. It will begin with Mass at 10 am, at 921 Homer Ave, Kansas City, KS 66101. We hope you can come help us celebrate and give thanks for the generosity of all who have helped this home become a reality.
