LEAWOOD — Curé of Ars Parish here hosted a concert by nationally-known composer and liturgical musician Tony Alonso on April 24.

Archbishop Shawn McKnight offered the welcome and opening prayer for the event, which was sponsored by the Greater Kansas City Chapter of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians (NPM).

It also included a morning reflection on the vocation of music ministers on April 25.

Theresa Vitt, music director at St. Joseph Parish in Leavenworth and NPM board chair on the Kansas side, believed those who attended were exposed to music strong in Catholic teaching.

The program represented “the diverse realities of our contemporary culture,” she said, and by embracing multicultural and bilingual music, helped attendees “become more aware that the Catholic Church is a worldwide church.”

Ellen Tuttle, director of music at Curé, was thrilled at how the event went.

“Tony presented a fantastic concert,” she said, “and the morning reflection for music ministers was very inspirational and on point regarding music in today’s church.”
