Decree altering the boundaries of territorial parishes in the Johnson County Pastoral Region:

The following territorial parishes in the Johnson County Pastoral Region will be affected: St. Paul Parish, Olathe; Prince of Peace Parish, Olathe; Church of the Ascension Parish, Overland Park; Queen of the Holy Rosary Parish, Bucyrus, and Divine Mercy Parish, Gardner


Whereas, in accord with the prescripts of Canon 515, § 2 and Canon 518, a new territorial parish has been erected in Olathe, Kansas (see separate decree dated May 29, 2016) and

After hearing the Presbyteral Council on this matter and consulting with the pastors of the parishes surrounding the newly erected parish, I hereby decree, in accord with the prescripts of Canon 515, § 2, the alteration of the boundaries for the following territorial parishes in the Johnson County Pastoral Region, effective Sept. 1, 2016:

For St. Paul Parish, the new boundaries shall be:

On the North: From W. 83rd Street and Gardner Road, east along W. 83rd Street to K-7 Hwy., then south along K-7 Hwy. to K-10 Hwy., then east along K-10 Hwy. to S. Ridgeview Road, then south along S. Ridge-view Road to W. 119th Street, then east along W. 119th Street to I-35.

On the East: From W. 119th Street and 1-35, south along I-35 to W. 151st Street.

On the South: From W. 151st Street and I-35, west along 151st Street to the intersection of W. 151st Street and N. Moonlight Road, then north along N. Moonlight Road to W. 143rd Street, then west along W. 143rd Street to S. Gardner Road.

On the West: From S. Gardner Road and W. 143rd Street, north along S. Gardner Road to W. 83rd Street.

For Prince of Peace Parish, the new boundaries shall be:

On the North: From W. 119th Street and I-35, east along W. 119th Street to S. Pflumm Road.

On the East: From W. 119th Street and S. Pflumm Road., south along S. Pflumm Road. to W. 135th Street, then east along W. 135th Street to S. Quivira Road, then south along S. Quivira Road from W. 135th Street to W. 159th Street.

On the South: From S. Quivira Road and W. 159th Street, west along 159th Street to S. Mur-Len Road, then north on Mur-Len Road to W. 151st Street, then west along W. 151st Street to I-35.

On the West: From W. 151st Street and I-35, north along I-35 to W. 119th Street.

For Church of the Ascension Parish, the new boundaries shall be:

On the North: From W. 119th Street and S. Pflumm Road, east along W. 119th Street to Blue Valley Parkway.

On the East: From W. 119th Street and Blue Valley Parkway, south along Blue Valley Parkway to U.S. 69 Hwy., then south to W. 167th Street.

On the South: From U.S. 69 Hwy. and W. 167th Street, west along W. 167th Street to S. Quivira Road.

On the West: From W. 167th Street and S. Quivira Road, north along S. Quivira Road to W. 135th Street, then west along W. 135th Street to S. Pflumm Road, then north along S. Pflumm Road to W. 119th Street.

For Queen of the Holy Rosary Parish, Bucyrus, the new boundaries shall be:

On the North: From W. 167th Street and S. Quivira Road, east along W. 167th Street to the Kansas/Missouri State Line.

On the East: From W. 167th Street and State Line, south along State Line to W. 247th Street in Miami County.

On the South: From W. 247th Street and the Kansas/Missouri State Line, west along W. 247th Street to U.S. 169 Hwy.

On the West:  From W. 247th Street and U.S. 169 Hwy. in Miami County, north along U.S. 169 Hwy to W. 215th Street (Miami/Johnson County line), then east along W. 215th Street to S. Renner Road, then north along S. Renner Road to W. 191st Street, then east along W. 191st Street to S. Quivira Road, then north along S. Quivira Road to W. 167th Street.

For Divine Mercy Parish, the new boundaries shall be:

On the North:   From the Douglas/  Johnson County line and W. 143rd St, east along W. 143rd Street to N. Moonlight Road, then south along N. Moonlight Road to W. 151st Street, then east along W. 151st Street to a point consistent with the intersection of W. 151st  Street and S. Hedge Lane.

On the East: From a point consistent with the intersection of W. 151st Street and S. Hedge Lane, south along a line consistent with S. Hedge Lane to W. 215th Street, then east along W. 215th Street to U.S. 169 Hwy., then south along U.S. 169 Hwy. to W. 247th Street in Miami County.

On the South: From W. 247th Street and U.S. 169 Hwy. in Miami County, then west along a line consistent with W. 247th Street to a N-S line consistent with Waverly Road (Hillsdale Lake), then south along that line to W. 255th Street and west along W. 255th Street to a N-S line consistent with the Douglas/Johnson County Line Road.

On the West: In Miami County, from W. 255th Street where it intersects a N-S line consistent with the Douglas/Johnson County line, then north along the Douglas/Johnson County line to W. 143rd Street.
