LEAWOOD — Archbishop Shawn McKnight will bless the new pipe organ at St. Michael the Archangel Church here during a festive service of Easter Vespers on May 3 at 3 p.m.

The new organ was built by Saint John’s Abbey Organ Builders under the artistic leadership of master organ builder Martin Pasi. Pasi is known throughout the world for the high quality and beauty of his instruments, most notably the monumental cathedral organs in Omaha and Houston.

The blessing of an organ is a rare event in which the organ is addressed and honored with incense as a “sacred instrument.”  After its “awakening” by the archbishop, the organ will take its place in the church reflecting God’s glory and accompanying the festive singing of the choir and the full liturgical assembly.

Vespers is an “ecumenical” liturgy in which everyone who is baptized can fully participate in the liturgical prayer.

All are invited and welcome.
